FF012 WE210 Track Link

Having built the M4A4 Sherman V conversion from Fighting 48th! I knew exactly what to expect when I recieved these sets of tracks through the post. Excellently cast resin, superbly detailed parts that will be easy to use.

The best aspect of modelling Shermans is that there are limitless options when it comes to variants and markings, although from the box the Tamiya kits limit this somewhat although they did quite sensibly choose a very common type of track. However, if you wish to do some conversion into British variants for example, you are limited by the lack of a T62 type track, or even the far less common WE210. Fortunately both (and more) are available from Fighting 48th! and thus a whole world of conversions are open. THe braver and more skilled amongst us could puch the boat oat and make a Grant, the slightly less adventurous could create some Priests or Sextons although some simpler and more straightforward conversions are infinitely more atainable, with a plethera already available from some aftermarket producers, namely the Crab which is also available from Fighting 48th!.

I would highly recommend each of these sets to anyone with any Sherman kits whether they be Tamiya, Bandai or Hobby Boss, as not only will they improve the appearance of the model, but as I mention above, they open a whole new world of markings options.

FF007 M4 Track Set Type T62 1:48th Scale

This set includes cast resin 'Link and Length' track to replace the rubber chevron style track included in the Tamiya M4 Sherman kit. The T62 curved cleat style with 3 rivet heads, was often seen on M4A4 Sherman V in British and Commonwealth service, but can be seen on other types. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This set will compliment our Fighting 48th M4A4 and Crab conversions, which frequently had this type of track. This set has been designed to fit the Tamiya M4 and M10 kits, but may also fit kits by HobbyBoss and Bandai.

     FF008  M4 Track Set Type T54E1      £10.00

     FF010  M4 Track Set Type T49 3 bar   £10.00

The T49 3 bar cleat track was used on many M4 Sherman tanks and their variants. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This set has been designed to fit the Tamiya M4 and M10 kits, but may also fit kits by HobbyBoss and Bandai.

    FF011 M4 Track Set Type T51 rubber block   £10.00

This set includes cast resin 'Link and Length' track to replace the rubber chevron style track included in the Tamiya M4 Sherman kit. The T51 Rubber Block replaced the earlier reversible T41 version. As it used a considerable amount of rubber, a scarce strategic material, it was gradually replaced by the various metal cleated styles. The T51 track was used on many early M4 Sherman tanks and their variants. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This set has been designed to fit the Tamiya M4 and M10 kits, but may also fit kits by HobbyBoss and Bandai.

FF012 M4 Track Set Type WE210 Waffle Pattern   £10.00

This set includes cast resin 'Link and Length' track to replace the rubber chevron style track included in the Tamiya M4 Sherman kit. The WE210 Waffle pattern was used mostly on British/Commonwealth M3 Grants, M4 Shermans and M7 Priests in the Western Desert, Sicily and Italy campaigns. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included.

FF013 M4 Track Set Type T56 Angular Steel Cleat   £10.00

This set includes cast resin 'Link and Length' track to replace the rubber chevron style track included in the Tamiya M4 Sherman kit. The T56 angled cleat was used on many M4 Sherman tanks and their variants. Each tread was bolted together, hence the distinctive square notches in the tread pattern. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This set has been designed to fit the Tamiya M4 and M10 kits, but may also fit kits by HobbyBoss and Bandai.

FF014 M4 Track Set Type T54E2 Curved Steel Cleat   £10.00

This set includes cast resin 'Link and Length' track to replace the rubber chevron style track included in the Tamiya M4 Sherman kit. The T54E2 curved cleat design was used on many M4 versions including the M4A4, so it is particularly well suited to our Sherman V and Crab conversion sets. Sufficient links are included for the longer hull M4A4, as well as the other Sherman hull versions. Fully illustrated instructions are included. This set has been designed to fit the Tamiya M4 and M10 kits, but may also fit kits by HobbyBoss and Bandai.

I would recommend using the M4A1 from Tamiya as a conversion base, as it has the pioneer toold moulded seperately as opposed to all of the other versions.

The conversion is of course suitable for all other Sherman kits from Tamiya and could probably be adapted to the Hobby Boss and Bandai kits as well.

CMK 1:48th M32 Recovery Sherman

For Tamiya Kits

Embracing the Market

CMK have certainly embraced the ever expanding 1:48 scale armour market, and are producing detail and conversion sets for it at a prolific rate. The latest addition to their range is the ubiquitous and perhaps not as sexy as the Firefly variant of the Sherman, the M32 Recovery Vehicle.

Designed to be used with the Tamiya M4 kit (32505) or any of the other Tamiya Sherman’s, (M4A1 and 1C Firefly) although I imagine that it could easily be adapted for use with one of the Hobby Boss Sherman’s, or perhaps even the old Bandai kits.

Usual Standards

As per usual for CMK detail sets, the resin is cast to the highest standards, and the detail sublime. There are some details that will need adding, namely some wire to represent the rungs on the main A frame, and in a couple of places the detail is somewhat representative, but at this point I had to remind myself that this is not a 35th scale detail set, and not everything is possible in this scale. So all in all it gets a very high rating in the details department.
The instructions are clear and easy to follow, benefiting from bi-lingual Czech and English text. Profile drawings are provided of the M32 in transport as well as working position, inspiring several diorama ideas immediately.

Highly Recommended

Overall it is an excellent looking detail set, and while the real test lay in how easily it builds up with the donor kit, if we are to go by previous CMK releases, I am very confident it will fit well. There is a great deal of scope in this kit, and as I mentioned earlier, it will be easily adaptable to several M32 variants. With the addition of some smoke generators Israeli variants are possible and should you want to build some trunking you could have some waders as well. Let’s hope CMK decide to do a version with wading gear.

I would highly recommend this conversion highly to those with an interest in Sherman’s, Recovery Vehicles, Allied Armour or anyone looking for something a little more than the ordinary for a diorama.
