Author: Daco puplications Published 2009
DACO is proud to announce the next book in its detailed
range "Uncovering the...", in which all US Navy versions
of the McDonnell Douglas (Q) F-4 B/J/N/S Phantom is uncovered.
Although this aircraft doesn't fly with the US Navy for quite
some years now, most of the F-4 N/S pictures were taken 5 years
ago during the last weeks of their operational life with VX-30
at Point Mugu. These on-the-flightline and in-the-hangar photos
are combined with recent taken pictures of F-4 B, J, N & S
Phantoms preserved at museums all over the USA to make it one
very complete book.
What you get is what we're used to, from Daco's book until now, a very thorough study of the F-4 in all its little details also a lot of the inside is revealed making this the best book for a super detail project on any given Us Navy F-4.
Also included are 18 pages of typical and experimental armament with several pictures taken during
the Vietnam war and with accurate drawings from the hand of Jim
Rotramel, and then there's two additional large fold outs with 1/72nd &
1/48th scale drawings and the cockpit lay-out diagrams of the
F-4B/N and F-4J/S by Willy Peeters.

interesting subject, the He 100 was ahead of her time and suffered
under the political climate of the times. The author, Erwin Hood has
done a tremendous job in researching what little information there is
available and presenting to us a detailed description of the entire
developmental history and the operational life of the He 100.
Building
a model can be as in depth as the modeller chooses, and if you are like
me, then you will appreciate to read and understand all the technical
advancements that this aircraft incorporated. Six full chapters delve

| Messerschmitt Me 262 A, B & Avia S-92, CS-92
No.915 ISSN 1335-3667 HT Model Special Published 2008 Reviewed by: Alan Troi Published
in the Slovak Republic; photographed at all major Museums; and
presented by Jozef And’al and our very own Piet Van Wyk de Vries, HT
Model Special delivers a very in depth look at the world’s first jet
fighter, the Me 262 and the after war Czech built S-92.
Softbound in a
high quality jacket, this book delivers to the modeller a series of
highly detailed photographs (4 to 6 per page) consisting of several
known museum aircraft worldwide; excerpts from period technical
manuals, and also highlights from the Everett Washington built Me
262’s. Complimenting these great photos is a series of exploded
diagrams of various systems and onboard weapons. The modeller is even
presented with a series of airbrushed colour profiles to stimulate and
entice one into choosing a certain period finish for that scale Me 262
model waiting to be built in the stash! This publication is delivered
in a very well presented format and structure, and will definitely
assist the modeller in detailing certain areas, and explain the major
aircraft systems.
I am very impressed with this publication and highly
recommend it to anyone who would like to have a good resource from
which to draw inspiration and information to correctly detail their
next Me 262 projects. Sometimes, building a model of that special
certain aircraft can be not only an adventure of learning how to detail
and breathe life into a subject, but also to contemplate and reflect on
the technology of the times and the systems behind the aircraft. This
publication brings both areas alive, and will add to the adventure of
modelling the world’s first fully operational jet fighter. Great value
for your modelling money! I just wish I would have had this publication
when I built my last Me 262! Now I have a great reason to finally start
building that next Me 262 model! Thanks Jozef and Piet!
European Modeller would like to graciously thank Piet Van Wyk de Vries for providing this publication for review.

| Eagle Editions Wings of the Black Cross Mark Proulx Illustrated by Terry Higgins Volume 5 ISBN 978-0-9794035-3-8
A well earned Pedigree
Having already established a very high precedent with this series of books each additional title has allot to live up to if it is to match it’s predecessor, and unlike all of the Police Academy films, this book easily does so.
The softbound format book combines a wealth of Black and White period photographs normally 2 to 3 per page, with several full colour illustrations of a few of the aircraft seen in the photographs and a couple of colour pictures on the back cover for good measure. No matter how much has been published before and is available in various places, each edition in this series seems to find plenty of highly interesting and never before seen images that makes this a very worthwhile addition to the collection of any Luftwaffe enthusiast and modeller. This edition has the added bonus of including rare images of 52 victory, Night-fighter Ace Martin Drewes Bf. 110. Dream Shots This particular edition is a modellers dream if you would like to model any of the multitude of aircraft featured on the pages as wrecks. From early Bf.109’s FW 190’s, Me-262’s, Ju-88’s, He-111’s, 117’s and even a Siebel 204 are all found in various states of disrepair and often in great detail whether they were damaged in combat or abandoned and scrapped. That isn’t to say the book is completely full of wrecks however, there are plenty of images of aircraft being serviced, flying and lined up for a beauty shot, as well as some useful images of ground-crew and pilots. When possible there are groupings of images of the same aircraft from a couple of angles, thus giving a more complete idea of the actual appearance of the particular aircraft, which will be of great benefit to modellers indeed!
Perhaps the best aspect of the Wings of the Black Cross series is that it manages to combine images that are interesting to look at with highly informative captions along with plenty that show great detail that will be of much use to modellers. Eagle Editions have long been a trusted name to be relied upon when doing research on a modelling project and the evidence of how thoroughly researched this book was lay in each of the captions.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in Luftwaffe aviation, WWII aviation or any one of the aircraft featured in it. At $17.95 USD I personally think this book is great value for money as it is not only a great collection of extremely interesting historical images, but also a great modelling reference.

| Plane Essentials Info Guide #1 de Havilland Mosquito Illustrated by: John Batchelor Text by: Malcolm V. Lowe ISBN 978-1-906589-00-4 Reviewed by Jay Laverty June 2008
"The series is aimed at enthusiasts as well as model makers, and follows the format that has become much favoured and successful in recent years of combining text, photographs and colour scheme information in one practical but wide ranging reference... 'Mosquito - Info Guide no.1' tells the story of the famed and highly versatile de Havilland D.H.98 Mosquito twin-engined fighter-bomber, reconnaissance aircraft and night-fighter, and the vital roles that it played in World War Two for the British and Commonwealth aircrews who took this excellent aircraft to war. Individual chapters detail the type's development, operational service, and many other aspects of this highly significant warplane. Nicknamed the 'Wooden Wonder', the Mosquito was unique amongst major Second World War combat aircraft by including wood as a major part of its construction. It was one of the most important Allied warplanes of that conflict, and it also saw valuable service after World War Two for a number of air forces around the world." The book covers all Mosquito variants in some detail, and uses photographs to illustrate them, my personal favourite being the F.B.XVIII equipped with the rare Molins gun, with two images included clearly showing the airplanes unique nose gun configuration. The book is a very interesting read, well written, and in my opinion well worth the R.R.P. of £ 9.99 (although it is available from the Plane Essentials website for £12.99 including postage inside the UK) I would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the Mosquito whether they are an enthusiast or modeller. You can be excused for not having heard the name Plane Essentials before as this Info Guide on the deHavilland Mosquito is the first release from this company, however, I get the feeling Plane Essentials will be a well known name in the modelling world before too long. Printed in high quality A4 format, this volume is richly illustrated with both period photographs, profiles and a centre spread cut-away drawing all combining with thoroughly researched historical text to make this a very useful reference for the ubiquitous Mosquito. | Available From: |

| Kagero Topcolours 3 Item # 15003 “Fighters Over Japan” Volume 1 Previewed by Jay Laverty March 2008
When I examined the first of this series of decal/profile collections from Kagero I was more than pleased with the product, and couldn’t imagine how it could be any better, but this 3rd addition to the Topcolours series is absolutely amazing. Full of spectacularly illustrated profiles of a variety of both Allied and Japanese aircraft from the Pacific Campaign, there is no shortage of inspiration to be derived from this wonderful collection, and given the fact that this is volume 1, we can expect some more in the future. Expanding slightly more into the historical aspect, the volume begins with three pages of historical essay, accompanied by a few historical images including a stunning colour image of a P-47 under service. In following with the pattern established in the earlier volume dedicated to the Panther, each richly illustrated profile is accompanied with a brief summary of each aircrafts service history including notes on unique elements that will be handy to know when modelling the aircraft. Several of the profiles are 3 point illustrations further aiding the task of painting and weathering for modellers, thus making the book an excellent source of reference. Given the pedigree Kagero possess when it comes to historical research, I am very confident in the accuracy of the illustrations and the text accompanying them. The well printed decal sheet covers most of the profiles in the book, however some of the saucier American nose-art has been left off, although there is plenty of spectacular markings options to choose from in their stead. Printed in 32nd, 48th and 72nd scale the decals are in perfect register and are accompanied by 3 sets of masks from Montex in 32nd and 48th as well.
This volume covers a wide variety of aircraft from both sides of the Pacific conflict, and as such will not only provide plenty of inspiration but also reference, and when considering the price-tag of £9.00 this decal/book combination is excellent value for money. For modellers who enjoy collecting both decals and or books this is an ideal combination although for anyone looking for something to provide some interesting reading as well as some inspiration this would also be an excellent buy. I would strongly recommend it to any and all modellers.
